For several years now, the price of fuel has been very high, and it continues to rise.
Fuel continues to grow
And, unfortunately, this trend is likely to continue for a long time to come war in Ukraine is still raging, as is the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Not to mention high taxes and increased demand. That’s why, since March just ended, gas prices have reached dizzying levels. Unleaded 98, unleaded 95 and unleaded 95-E10 have skyrocketed in price, confusing motorists and alarming the government. And it is not for nothing that the average price per liter of SP98 crossed the mark of 1.9643 euros. SP95, for its part, is €1.9065 per litre, while SP95-E10 remains at the level of 1.8836 euros per liter. These numbers are staggering, and motorists are wondering how long they will be able to tolerate this unrelenting growth. Because many of them still have to drive to work every day.
Before returning the fuel check?
Despite this surge in prices, it is important to note that within one year, prices have continued to decline. SP98 fell 2.1%, while SP95 fell 2.2%. E10, for its part, has decreased by 1.8%. This downward trend gives drivers a little respite, but the situation remains alarming. But what about the government’s promised €100 fuel cheque? The latter confirmed that it will indeed be offered when the price of gasoline and diesel approaches the mark of two euros per liter. Now it is like that, but nothing seems to work. So motorists are wondering if this measure will be introduced in time to relieve their wallets. By the way, price fluctuations at the pump are closely related to the price of a Brent barrel. The latter is currently up more than $10 since the start of the year, from $75 to nearly $88. This growth is partly explained by the tense geopolitical situation in the world, in particular in Ukraine and Israel.
Therefore, it remains to be seen what the government plans to do to help stranded motorists.
