Ion Ciriak has withdrawn his proposal to build a free skating rink in the municipality of Brasov, Mayor Allen Coliban has announced, claiming sabotage by local councillors, who make up the majority.
Ion Cyriak, disappointed with the leaders of Brasov – Mayor Allen Koliban: “Whole generations of children will suffer”
The mayor of Brasov said that he received a letter from the former tennis player, in which he expressed his “disappointment with those who manage the municipality of Brasov”, respectively, the refusal of the city council “to receive a sports facility for free, which was to serve all the people of Brasov”, and in which the businessman specifies , that “his willingness to implement a partnership with the municipality of Brasov is terminated.”
“This is a letter that I received after long meetings on Thursday and Friday, both in committees and in plenary sessions. Discussions on this topic lasted more than six hours, given that the contract fully protected the interests of the municipality, and the risks were assumed by the private party.
The letter from Mr. Ion Cyriak thanks the executive director for his openness and willingness to cooperate, as well as for the efforts made during this year since the beginning of the steps.
At the same time, he expresses his disappointment with the lack of confidence of the majority of the city council and the vote, which he considers surprising and incomprehensible, so he officially declares that he is leaving this construction, basically, this partnership.
Mr. PSD and PNL, you have been defeated, Brasov is losing its rink, whole generations of children will suffer from repeated sabotage of the city council.
Unfortunately, we have this result, which says a lot about how Brasov has driven away investors in the past, that for years in a row we have also been bypassed by big music festivals and such partnership offers from big and reliable investors, and it is all connected exclusively with the fact that political voting (in CL – no) contradicted the interests of the residents of Brasov and the oath that we, the representatives of the community, took” – Allen Koliban, Mayor of Brasov.
On December 29, the local council of Brasov adopted a memorandum of cooperation with the Ion Ciriak Foundation in order to create a rink specially designed for training children and juniors, writes Agerpres.
According to the explanations provided by USR Mayor Allen Koliban at the time, the fund was supposed to purchase a plot of land on which to make investments with its own funds, and then the rink was to be handed over to the municipality of Brasov
At the same time, the mayor promised that the details of cooperation with the Ion Ciriak Foundation will be presented to the Brasov City Council at the end of January. However, the draft CL Decision reached the table of Brasov councilors only last week, March 29, and after a long debate, it was not voted on due to the opposition of PNL and PSD councilors.
