Suppliers failed to bill tens of thousands of consumers on time for the electricity they fed into the grid, resulting in arrears of more than 100 million lei, according to the Association of Consumers and Energy Communities of Romania, which proposes to fine suppliers for each day of delay.
“Tens of thousands of consumers in Romania do not receive their monthly bills on time for the energy consumed and the energy fed into the grid, and in the case of many energy suppliers, the delays are well over 12 months and even up to 24 months. “, the press release of the association says.
In total, over the past two years, prosumers sent several thousand messages to NARE, but received the only answer that “the problem will be solved.”
Prosumers point out that the suppliers receive the energy transferred by them and use it immediately, collecting money each month from the customers assigned to each supplier separately, but at the same time they issue bills even two years late.
According to the law, consumers receive payment for excess electricity transferred to the network for a maximum of 24 months from the date of billing.
This has led to situations where some consumers who put electricity on the grid in 2022 and received a bill this year will not receive money until 2026, the release also said.
In connection with HotNews.ro, the president of the association, Dan Pearson, stated that the accumulated debt of suppliers to consumers exceeds 100 million lei.
“We are in an absurd situation that has been going on for almost two years, and it cannot continue like this,” he said.
Prosumers propose to fine suppliers who do not issue invoices on time
The association reported this to ANRE, and the body responded by checking suppliers for non-compliance with provisions related to consumer billing and fined six companies 520,000 lei, one of which was sanctioned 360,000 lei.
“We propose that all electricity suppliers in Romania who delay billing for more than 30 days from the month in which the consumers’ energy was fed into the grid, be fined 0.2% per day of the total amount of the bill, and the fine be deducted from the total amount invoices.
This will lead to fiscal discipline of providers and, especially, to the elimination of abuses,” the prosumers also said in a statement.
NARE takes this into account, it was also reported.
According to ANRE data, at the end of January, there were 114,109 consumers in Romania with a total installed capacity of 1,502 MW.
