​The government passed an emergency decree on Thursday to create a group of 15 lawyers from the Ministry of Finance and the General Secretariat of the Government to manage all information that other ministries or agencies may have about current or future legal proceedings. of the Romanian state, similar to disputes such as Roșia Montană or Pfizer.

• “Today, through GEO, a core of 15 lawyers has been created at the level of the Government, at the level of the Ministry of Finance and the General Secretariat of the Government, which should manage all the information that other ministries or institutions may have about the current or future Romanian state similar to Roșia Montana or Pfizer.
• This core, created today, based on the existing legal basis, through which the Ministry of Finance was somehow responsible for managing these disputes, will allow updating information at the government level,” said Mihai Konstantin, the government spokesman.

50% salary bonus for extra effort and professional advancement

Mihai Konstantin noted that the internal coordination of these disputes has been handled by 10 lawyers, as well as 5 lawyers from the General Secretariat of the Government, whose salaries will be increased by 50%.

• “10 lawyers from the Ministry of Finance will receive a salary increase to compensate for the additional effort and professional incentives, in addition to which 5 lawyers from the SGG will also receive a salary increase.” he declared.

Romania risks paying Pfizer more than 2.78 billion lei plus legal costs

Earlier this year, Romania received a summons from the Francophone Court of First Instance in Brussels on 12/22/2023 in a case registered under No. F5331-23 brought by plaintiffs PFIZER Inc., BIONTECH Manufacturing GmbH, Pfizer. Romania SRL, the subject of which is the Contract for the purchase of vaccines against COVID-19, concluded between the contractor and the European Commission.

Therefore, Romania is obliged to fulfill the purchase agreement by paying the price for the remaining 28.94 million vaccines that it purchased, in the amount of approximately EUR 564 million, i.e. the payment to Pfizer Romania of 2.78 billion lei and the payment of court costs, related to the procedure, respectively 22,500 euros, according to the Government.
