Facebook kills people, US senator tells Mark Zuckerberg
February 1, 2024
In an unusual move during a U.S. Senate hearing on Wednesday, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg apologized to parents whose children have been harmed by using the company’s online platforms. This happened when a senator accused the businessman of inadvertently creating a “product that is killing people”.
“I’m so sorry for everything you’ve been through,” Zuckerberg told family members in the audience, some of whom held photos of their children. “No one should have to go through the things their families have suffered.”
Tech executives convened by the US Senate Judiciary Committee were grilled in a session titled “Big Tech and the Online Child Sexual Exploitation Crisis.”
In addition to Zuckerberg, TikTok CEO Chouzi Chew was invited to Washington, as well as Snapchat co-founder Evan Spiegel, Discord CEO Jason Citron and the head of online platform X, formerly Twitter, Linda Yaccarino .
