Nikushor Dan says that polls show that if the parties of the right-wing political table support a single candidate, he will win, and if they support several candidates, “the left will win the mayor’s office.” Asked about him as the only candidate from the right in this year’s elections, Nikushor Dan said: “I think there is a possibility.”

“We always have a PSD candidate who starts at the first opportunity, and we have a question whether there will be a single candidate from the right or not. If there is only one right candidate (…), the right candidate gets the first chance. If there are more right-wing candidates, the PSD candidate wins. It’s very, very simple,” Nikushor Dan said.

When asked if he was negotiating with anyone on this matter, the mayor said that “with all right-wing parties.”

“I am having discussions with all right-wing parties (…), in my opinion, this means USR, PNL, PMP, Forţa Dreptei and REPER (…) This year there are more elections, the calculations are more difficult than they were 4 years ago. The parties are in a period where they are conducting polls, weighing different strategies, I think it will probably take some time until we get the final announcement,” added the mayor general, according to News.ro.

As for combining local elections with the first round of presidential elections, Nikushor Dan believes that this is inappropriate.

“I don’t think it’s a good idea because the messages are different. That is, it is obvious that the residents of the commune, city, and municipality have problems with which they should address the mayor and candidates for the post of mayor. The first round of presidential elections concerns national topics, issues that also belong to the sphere of Romania’s foreign relations. That’s why they are different entities,” said the mayor.
