Tsitsipas (the 7th seed) lost after three hours of play to the American, ranked 12th in the ATP rankings, 7-6(3), 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.
Stefanos committed too many errors in the match at John Cain Arena (7 double faults, 33 unforced errors) and made fewer winning shots than his opponent (41-50).
Tsitsipas and Fritz also met in 2022 in Melbourne, at the same stage of the tournament, but then the Greek won 4-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

- This is Taylor’s second victory over Stephanos in official competitions (the Greek defeated the American three times).
- Taylor Fritz will meet Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals. The Serbian leads with a score of 8-0 in head-to-head matches.
