According to the same study, 47% of Romanians are neither optimistic nor pessimistic about 2024, a sense of neutrality that underscores the delicate balance between hope and uncertainty. On the other hand, 19% expressed pessimism about the new year.
Women are more optimistic (37%) than men (30%), and compared to age categories, the two extremes, young people aged 18-24 (43%) and mature people over 55 (45%) stand out more. optimistic.
How satisfied are Romanians with their lives?
Measuring the level of satisfaction with different aspects of everyday life, we found that Romanians are most satisfied with the interpersonal relationships they have in their family (75%), with loved ones (66%) or their romantic relationships (65%) ). As a rule, people with low incomes (less than 2000 RON) are less satisfied with romantic relationships (50%).
The lowest satisfaction rates were recorded for aspects related to the professional sphere, namely, the level of satisfaction with the workplace (51%) and the current financial situation (46%). Mature people over the age of 55 (34%) are most dissatisfied with their financial situation.
Plans of Romanians for the new year
The leader of New Year’s resolutions is similar to last year: most Romanians want to travel more (34%), spend more time with family (32%) or eat healthier (27%).
For people with children, the need to spend more time with family is more important (42% vs. 23% for those without children), and for people aged 44-55, the desire to travel more (47% vs. 34% of the total sample).
If we pay attention to young people, people aged 25-34 want to participate in personal development courses to a greater extent (23% against 11% of the total sample), as well as representatives of generation Z (19-24 years old) want to visit the gym (19% against 12 % of total sample)
For people over 55, the desire to devote more time to their hobbies (21%) and to go to church more often (17%) is much more important than for the general sample (15% and 10%, respectively). .

About hopes and anxieties of Romanians since the New Year
If we talk about the expectations of Romanians at the beginning of the new year, the leading place is optimism about the improvement of personal financial situation (34%), which is present to a much greater extent among women (39%). against 28% of men) and young people aged 18 to 24 (53%). Regarding personal and family intentions, 13% of Romanians intend to get married or engaged in 2024, while 32% have no such plans, especially among the 45-55-year-olds (46%) and the 18-24-year-olds (43%) . Likewise, 10% of respondents intend to give birth to a child in the new year, significantly more among those aged 35 to 44 (17%).
In terms of career and professional field, 4 out of 10 Romanians intend to change jobs in 2024. More precisely, 27% of Romanians want a new employer, especially people aged 44-55, and 13% want to open a business, especially young people aged 25-34 (28%).
In addition, a quarter of Romanians state that they intend to change their place of residence in 2024, either to another house in the same location (11%), to another place in the country (10%) or even abroad (4%).
