Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu met on Monday with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, during which the head of government said that Romania will support Ukraine until victory over Russia, stressing that the Romanian people know the system of Moscow’s aggression. At the same time, Cholaku appealed to the US to increase attention to the Republic of Moldova, warning that it is in a vulnerable position in the context of the war in Ukraine.

“Romania was and will be with Ukraine until it achieves victory over the Romanian Federation… the Russian Federation. Romania learned a lesson about Russia a long time ago. We know the Russian people and the system of aggression, so we will ask that, in addition to your partnership with Romania, we always keep the Republic of Moldova in mind. At the moment, it is the most vulnerable country in Europe after Ukraine, where there is an armed conflict, and in the Republic of Moldova there is a conflict and a hybrid war due to President Maia Sanda and the democratic government.”

According to a government press release, US Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin and Prime Minister Çolaku emphasized the need to make joint efforts to ensure the stability of the Republic of Moldova, especially in the context of hybrid attacks by the Russian Federation.

Lloyd Austin, the US Secretary of Defense, for his part, said that he had a pleasant visit to Bucharest in 2021, and the visit of Prime Minister Çolaku demonstrates the relationship between the two countries, the US-Romanian strategic partnership, which after 26 years has never been was stronger than now.

Marcel Ciolacu showed in a message on the X network that he highly appreciates the commitment of Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin to promote Romanian-American defense cooperation in the Black Sea region.
