As Sky News reports, the Israeli military has released documents and video footage it says it found on the bodies of Hamas fighters.
One of them is a notebook found in the Reimu area with texts in Arabic and Hebrew with translations, which the Israeli military says helped Hamas fighters communicate with the hostages. Among the 45 phrases are sentences like “Where is the head of the kibbutz?” and “We will kill the hostages.”
The Israel Defense Forces says it has seized hundreds of computers containing millions of files, as well as thousands of hours of footage from GoPro cameras worn by Hamas fighters.
While some of the material has been released, much has remained “top secret,” although media outlets that have seen it have been given permission to write about it.
One book contains instructions and diagrams showing fighters the attack points of Israeli armored vehicles and tanks.
On a map found in Gaza, Hamas bases and command posts are highlighted in pink; a video shot by Hamas shows a drone crossing the border fence between Gaza and Israel and attempting to land on an Israeli tank to blow it up, but it hits the antenna and crashes.
The fighters took medicine and food with them, expecting to stay in Israel for a long time, and Israel says it has evidence that Hamas wanted to extend its incursion deeper into Israel, including on the outskirts of Jerusalem and near Tel Aviv.
Much of the material is not directly related to the attacks, such as wedding photos on cellphones and everyday items in vehicles, suggesting many fighters were unaware of the attacks until the last minute.
Documents and video footage of Gaza’s tunnel network show that it is larger than Israel had imagined, and that some of the tunnels are large enough for trucks to pass through. (full on Sky News)
