
The National Bank of Romania wants to insure its buildings across the country, including banknote processing equipment, against dozens of risks such as fire, lightning, explosion, earthquake or vandalism. For the headquarters and administrative headquarters in Bucharest alone, the additional insurance should cover payment of more than 220 million lei in case of catastrophes or insured events.

Tender specifications launched this month at SEAP for optional and compulsory property insurance detail all BNR properties in the country and the maximum amounts the insurer will pay out in the event of insured risks.
For example, the insurance cost of the central office of the BNR on the street Lady no. 8 exceeds 101.4 million lei, and the administrative headquarters at Lipskani street no. 25 has an insurance value of more than 120.1 million lei.

The document also presents insurance values for NBR administrative headquarters in other cities of the country, namely:

At what cost are BNR villas insured in the country
The National Bank also owns a number of villas in several localities of the country.
Villa Oromolu in Vilca County is insured for more than 20.7 million lei, a villa in Kumpetu, Sinaia is valued at more than 13.4 million lei, BNR’s villa in Paltinish has an insured value of more than 3.6 million lei, a villa in Snagov has insurance value over 1.3 million lei.
What risks does the optional insurance of all these objects cover?
Additional insurance of all these buildings covers 19 risks, respectively:
1. Fire, including direct material damage to the insured product by fire due to:
– full or partial carbonization and melting in a flame and without it;
– fire damage to electrical, water, sewage or central heating installations connected to buildings;
– emission of smoke, gas or steam due to fire.
2. Lightning, respectively atmospheric electric discharge directly on the insured building/structure or the place where the insured goods are located, or directly on the insured goods in the open air;
3. An explosion (with subsequent fire or not), even if it occurred outside the building, but was not caused by explosive devices (substances, substances or pyrotechnic materials);
4. Falling of aircraft (planes and spacecraft), their individual parts or transported objects, or hitting them;
5. Earthquake;
6. Floods and washouts due to spillage of surface water (flowing or stagnant), as well as temporary atmospheric precipitation, including melting snow or ice;
7. Storm, hurricane, storm, tornado and direct consequences of torrential rain due to the violent manifestation of atmospheric phenomena occurring simultaneously with torrential rain;
8. Hail – direct consequences;
9. Collapse and/or landslide caused by natural causes;
10. Weight of snow and/or ice;
11. Hitting by cars, except those belonging to the insured, from the outside to the insured building or the place of placement of the insured goods or directly to the insured goods in the open air;
12. Shock wave caused by aircraft (sonic shock);
13. Snow avalanches, depending on the circumstances;
14. Accidental fall of bodies that are not part of the insured property;
15. Strikes, public disturbances and actions of criminal groups.
16. Accidental damage to water supply, sewage or central heating systems;
17. Accidental damage to air conditioning units, as well as damage to electrical, electronic, household appliances;
18. Flooding from neighbors (where available);
19. Vandalism.
Insurance policies will be concluded for 12 months. Compulsory Building Insurance (PAD) will cover three risks of natural disasters: earthquake, flood and landslide, with a maximum insured sum of €20,000 for each building.

Another optional insurance, in the case of movable assets of the NBR, will cover the services of insurance against fire and other risks of the banknote processing equipment located in the bank’s branches.
How much will the two types of insurance cost?
BNR’s optional and mandatory building insurance has an estimated value of more than 1.24 million lei, while optional process equipment insurance has a value of more than 176,000 lei without VAT.
The deadline for receiving tender offers or applications for participation is December 21, 2023. On the same day, the opening of offers will take place.
