This is one of the privileges of electric car owners in some cities: free street parking. But be careful, this system does not apply to all cities, even if many municipalities have decided in their own way to “encourage” the energy transition at this level thanks to this small advantage, which in some municipalities is far from insignificant.
But like the environmental bonus, this “privilege” will only last for a while. Really, several cities have decided to abandon free parking for electric carsa decision that is obviously explained by the prevalence of these models on our roads.
This year, in the first half of the year, from January to June, almost 140,000 electric cars were registered in France, which is 15.3% more than in 2022. 15.5% of the market.
These are the cities where electric cars are welcome
This week in Auto Plus magazine (No. 1837), our colleagues have compiled a special report on parking rules, sometimes “folk”, local features and some absurdities that are worth bypassing.
Let’s start with the cities where the electric car is well received. amazingly, we find Paris in a good position, as “clean” vehicles, namely electric, hybrid, E85 and LPG, can park for free for 6 hours on all streets. There is, however, one small condition: to declare its registration so that it gets into the capital’s “low-emission car”, the procedure is renewed every year.
Cities such as Cannes, Nice, Reims and even Valence also offer free parking for electric cars for a few hours, between one and three in total, while municipalities such as Levallois-Perret, Neuilly-sur-Seine and Toulouse offer free parking . residents
Some cities still welcome EVs or even PHEVs with open arms, with full free access, such as Bourges (18), Caen-sur-Mer (06), Chalons-en-Champagne (51), Cherbourg-en-Cotentin (50 ). ), Conflans-Saint-Honorin (78), Courbevoie (92) and La Roche-sur-Yon (85).
Free parking for electric cars in these cities has already ended!
Cities that have returned free parking for electric cars include Charleville-Mézières (08), Caen (14), Montbéliard (25), Rouen (42), Rouen (76) and Tours (37).
These cities will be followed by others next year and years after that. This benefit will only last for a while, and EV users take advantage of it while they can!
