November 17 is the International Day of Premature Babies, and as every year, Pampers, a Procter & Gamble brand, supports them by donating specially designed diapers to maternity homes in Romania where the need is real.
For premature babies, touch is crucial, especially since their skin can be twice as thin as that of full-term babies. Touch is the first form of love and protection that children experience. Since 2018, Pampers has decided to meet the needs of premature babies and created Pampers Preemie Protection diapers, which are 3 times smaller than regular diapers for newborns, providing them with the comfort they need and protecting their extremely fragile skin.
In Romania, more than 15,000 babies are born prematurely (8% of the total number of births), and every day is a new success for them. Their small and slender bodies can weigh as little as 800 grams, so a simple task like changing diapers can be a daunting task.
Caring for a premature baby is extremely difficult. From the moment premature babies are born to the moment they are out of danger and ready to finally be in their parents’ arms, neonatology staff dedicate their time and soul to helping premature babies’ hearts beat full of hope. That is why they play an extremely important role in the growth and development of a premature baby.
Pampers understands the efforts neonatologists make every day to care for and protect premature babies. Therefore, this year, Pampers, in partnership with ARNIS, the Romanian Association of Long-Term Newborns, is offering to donate transportable incubators for premature babies to three local maternity hospitals in need of such equipment.
“This year, in addition to donating diapers, which are so necessary for premature babies, we are together with premature babies and support the efforts of neonatologists by donating transport tubs. Thus, together with ARNIS, we want to thank the medical staff of the neonatology department, who do everything possible to keep the little hearts of premature babies beating full of hope.”– says Rezvan Resmerita, director of communications at Procter & Gamble.
“When a child is no longer protected by the mother’s womb and is born early, it is vital to provide the proper environment for survival. Transport of the premature baby (whether intra-hospital transport from the delivery room to the neonatal intensive care unit or inter-hospital transfer) should be carried out in incubators that provide an environment as close as possible to in utero and under constant supervision. I welcome Pampers’ initiative to equip 3 maternity hospitals that care for premature babies born at 32-34 weeks of pregnancy with transport incubators to provide them with the protection they need!”says Corina Kroitoru, president and founding member of ARNIS.
