On Wednesday, November 8, as part of the “A Brief History of Romanians” auction, medieval coins minted by the first Romanian rulers were put up for auction.
Casa Artmark is auctioning lots of outstanding scholarly interest, in a good state of preservation, star symbols of some of the most important moments in Romanian history, spanning the foundations of the Romanian people, the medieval period and the modern era.
During the auction scheduled for November 8, you will be able to gain access to a special collection of medieval coins minted by the first Romanian rulers in Moldavia and Wallachia.
Very rare and of great numismatic value, among others: a half-gross coin minted by Alexander the Good in Moldova in 1400-1432 (starting price only 100 euros); Gros coin minted by Stephen the Great also in Moldova in 1457-1504 (starting price 200 euros); Ducat coin of Mircea the Elder of Wallachia, 1386-1418 (starting price 175 euros).
The world rarity presented at the auction is a copy of the 10 ducat gold coin, minted in 1626 in Baia Mare by the governor of Transylvania, Gabriel Bethlen, of the “Baptism of the Lord in Jordan” type. The brilliant coin is still known only in the collections of the Numismatic Cabinet of the Art History Museum in Vienna and the National Museum in Budapest.
Another rarity of Romanian numismatics is the first coin minted on the current territory of Romania, in Histria, 313-280 BC. Silver coin – drachma, type Gemini – two banks of the Danube. The reverse features a sea eagle with a dolphin in its claws, a special image inspired by the natural environment around the city and, at the same time, a testament to the maritime activities of the city’s residents.
Among the most offered coins of modern Romania at the auction is a gold item from 1870: a 20 lei coin. The current price reaches almost 5000 euros.
At the same auction, dedicated to lovers of the royal family, you can find luxurious ghosts with historical significance.
The star of the lot, the powder box given to Elena Lupescu by King Karol II, can be sold at auction for prices starting at €2,000. A unique collector’s item crafted from gold, silver and buga and featuring the monogram of King Charles, approx. 1930 year.
Offered by collectors for just €250 is a pair of cufflinks and buttonholes that belonged to King Charles II, in their original box, decorated with the King’s monogram.
They were made by the royal house jeweler Henry Weiss in Bucharest in the interwar period from gold and platinum and set with diamonds.
The auction is scheduled for Wednesday, November 8, during the day at 12:00 p.m. exclusively on the Artmark LIVE online platform, open to the general public. The platform makes available to users at any time both the registration of an offer for the considered lots and a real-time auction at the price at which collectibles can be awarded.
