Oleksandr Zverev was fined 450,000 euros for domestic violence

According to the statement, at the request of the Berlin prosecutor’s office, the court “on October 2 issued a criminal resolution against professional tennis player Oleksandr Zverev,” who is suspected of “assault and beating.” The court imposed a fine of 450,000 euros.

“Zvereva is accused of physically assaulting a woman during an argument in Berlin in May 2020 and causing harm to her health.”

The court did not name the plaintiff. However, in a separate statement, the player’s defenders responded to the court’s announcement and named Brenda Patea, the athlete’s former partner.

Oleksandr Zverev “denies the charges and filed an appeal,” the court said, opening the way for a hearing.

The competent section of the Tiergarten Court will first hear the parties and then most likely set a trial date.

The law firm Schertz Bergmann, which represents the player’s interests, said in a statement published on X that the facts described by Patea, “the only ones that form the basis of the ruling, have already been rejected by a medical opinion.”

In January, the ATP closed an investigation into allegations of domestic violence against Zverev, this time involving a female tennis player, due to insufficient evidence. The investigation was opened following accusations of violence brought against him in late 2020 by his former partner Olga Sharipova, News.ro reports.

Zverev is competing in the Masters 1000 tournament in Paris-Berce this week.
