Platforms and drivers VTC (A transport vehicle with a driver) is bad to mix with Paris taxis : this is not the first time we have seen tension between these two categories of passenger transport professionals, but the arrival Olympic Games in Paris in 2024 adds fuel to the fire.
Indeed, the organization of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games is planning a transport plan with numerous mechanisms to facilitate the operation of taxis in this context, and in particular 185 km of reserve lanes, which will not be open to VTC. On the other hand, VTC drivers and platforms are also challenging some other measures.
Paris 2024 Olympics: taxi organization but not VTC
Really, from July 1 to September 15, 2024many roads in the Paris agglomeration (A1, A4, A12, A13, A86, A104 and N13) will reserved for vehicles accredited (officials, staff, journalists, etc.), public transport vehicles, vehicles for transporting people with reduced mobility, emergency vehicles, as well as Taxibut with the exception of VTC. Indeed, the Government specified that the presence of MDGs on these routes may cause congestion, but in fact this advantage given to taxis is justified by the government regulation of their price.
THE Trade unions of VTC drivers then called on Clément Beaune, the Minister of Transport, to denounce this discrimination: “Most strategic projects of urban planning and development partially, and most often completely, exclude the MDGs, but give full access to taxis”exposes the team Paris Mobility VTC in this letter, which still remains unanswered.
The MDGs condemn discrimination
VTCs want to demonstrate their ability to transport the large number of visitors expected for the Paris 2024 Games. In fact, there are approx. 30,000 cars Also, who will be able to lend a helping hand to taxis, of which there will not be too many to meet the demand that promises to be massive. A trend seen during recent sporting events such as certain Rugby World Cup matches.
In addition to this exclusion of lanes reserved for taxis, VTCs also condemn a discrimination facing the opportunity to pick up or drop off customers. In fact, taxis will be allowed to approach the sports facilities, while the CTC will have to park further away, which creates another disadvantage for the latter.
