Mihaela Lupu, currently the Chief Financial Officer for Central and Eastern Europe (CE&EE) at UniCredit Group, will become the new CEO and President of UniCredit Bank Romania from October 16, 2023. Her appointment was approved by the National Bank of Romania.

With a 25-year career at UniCredit, Mihaela Lupu started her career at UniCredit Group in August 1998 at HVB Bank Romania SA as a financial analyst, and in 2004 became the coordinator of the financial control department.

Since 2007, Mihaela was promoted to the position of head of the financial control department at UniCredit Țiriac Bank, and in 2010 she became the director of planning and control. The experience gained in these management positions and the leadership qualities recommended her in 2013 for the appointment to the position of financial director and member of the management of UniCredit Bank in Romania. Since 2017, Michaela Lupu has taken on new challenges in the Group, successively taking on the position of Head of Group Planning, Capital Management and Strategic Capital Management, and from 2021 to the present, the role of CFO for Central and Eastern Europe (CE&EE).

Mihaela’s responsibilities include being part of the due diligence team for the merger with Banca Comercială Ion Țiriac, followed by the merger between UniCredit and HVB Țiriac, and being part of the team that coordinated the acquisition of the retail and corporate portfolios from RBS.

Mihaela Lupu has a degree in economics, a graduate of the Academy of Economic Sciences in Bucharest, and a certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS).
