Israel was due to play Switzerland in Tel Aviv on Thursday, but the match in Group I of the 2024 European Championship qualifiers (which also includes Romania) was postponed by UEFA.
UEFA postponed the match between Israel and Switzerland in Romania’s group
Israel’s soccer federation asked for matches against Switzerland and Kosovo to be postponed after the Islamist movement Hamas carried out its biggest attack on Israel in years on Saturday.
“In light of the current security situation in Israel, UEFA has decided to postpone all matches scheduled in that country for the next two weeks. New data will be confirmed later.
UEFA will need several days to assess whether the Euro 2024 qualifier between Kosovo and Israel can go ahead as planned on October 15 or be postponed.
“UEFA will continue to monitor the situation closely and will remain in contact with all the teams involved before making a decision on new dates and possible changes to other upcoming matches,” the football forum said on its official website.
Romania are due to face Israel away on November 18, but the game is likely to be played on a neutral ground.
