“We had partial success in the areas west of Robotiny, in the Zaporizhzhia region. There, our soldiers saw that the occupiers suffered losses both in terms of personnel and equipment,” Oleksandr Stupun, spokesman for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in southern Ukraine, said on Wednesday.

“We continue to assert ourselves on the defensive lines and continue to exhaust the enemy on this line. Let’s put it this way, in some areas we advanced from 100 to 600 meters,” Stupun said on Ukrainian television.

In recent weeks, gains and losses in the area have been measured in hundreds of meters, as Ukrainian forces have tried to break through multiple Russian defensive barriers and advance toward the vital center of Tokmak.

Stupun said that “in the direction of Melitopol we are slowly pushing”, and in recent days 25 Russian soldiers have surrendered.

“But the enemy does not give up, the enemy is trying to regain lost positions, especially to the west of Verbovoy, to the southeast of Malaya Tokmatsika, so it throws other reserves into the assault. We also see that the elite landing force is sent to attack, but suffers losses,” he added.

On the Russian side, the well-known military blogger WarGonzo stated that “Ukrainian troops with massive artillery support are attacking (the village of) Novoprokopivka.”

“The armed forces of the Russian Federation had to level the front line in the northern part of the settlement. In turn, they counterattacked from Verbovoy and Novofedorivka. At the first of the listed sites, they managed to repulse the Armed Forces,” the blogger noted.

Ukraine’s strategy was to use long-range artillery to knock out Russian defense units in the area. On Tuesday, the Ukrainian military said that Russian forces were unsuccessfully trying to recapture lost positions west of Verbovoy and southeast of Malaya Tokmachitsa, CNN reports.
