US President Joe Biden on Wednesday condemned the “poisonous atmosphere” of political life in the United States, a day after the unprecedented impeachment of Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy and while the paralysis of the federal budget was averted last week, AFP reported.

“We must change the poisonous atmosphere in Washington,” the American president said in the White House. “We have deep differences, but we must stop seeing each other as enemies,” he emphasized.

Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives began running for speaker of the House on Wednesday, a day after a small group of hardliners managed to oust Kevin McCarthy from office for the first time in history.

The procedural maneuver, very rarely used in the history of the US parliament, came after Congress passed the administration’s preliminary budget on Saturday, which many conservatives opposed.
