The Embassy of Ukraine in Romania appeals to the population to stop filming and posting on social networks images of Russian drone attacks on Ukrainian ports on the Danube, “so as not to increase the threat to the lives of people who work and live in the cities of the region.”
In a message titled “Appeal” published Wednesday evening on Facebook, the Embassy of Ukraine in Romania demonstrates that Russia continues to terrorize the peaceful Ukrainian population and attack the civilian infrastructure of Ukraine.
The embassy reminds that on the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, Russian troops again attacked the Odesa region, hitting the infrastructure of the Danube ports, seven people were injured, warehouses and grain silos were damaged.
- “This once again confirms the Russian aggressor’s cynical abuse of international humanitarian law, his desire to undermine global food security, endangering the supply of Ukrainian agricultural products to the needy,” the Embassy of Ukraine in Romania noted.
Images shared on Facebook ‘direct threat to the population of the area’
Representatives of the diplomatic mission of Kyiv in Bucharest say that footage of drone strikes on infrastructure in ports has been distributed in social networks and the press, and this poses a direct threat to the population of the area:
- “Today, we regretfully observe the spread of videos of drone strikes on port infrastructure and the work of Ukrainian air defense systems on social networks and some mass media. In the current conditions of Russian aggression, such videos pose a threat not only to the safe operation of the Danube ports, but also directly to the civilian population living in this region.
- The Russian attacker actively monitors the Internet and, receiving additional information, adjusts his attacks.
- We appeal to everyone not to shoot and distribute such videos in social networks and mass media, so as not to increase the threat to the lives of people who work and live in the cities on the Danube.”
Russia attacked with drones the port of Reni on the Danube, located on the border with Romania
Grain warehouses were damaged as a result of an attack by Russian drones at night in one of Ukraine’s ports on the Danube, Oleg Kiper, the governor of the Odesa region, said on Wednesday, citing Reuters. “Last night, Russian terrorists attacked Odesa region twice with drones. The main target is port and grain infrastructure in the south of the region,” Kiper wrote on the Telegram messaging app.
The strikes were carried out on the port of Reni, Andriy Yermak, the head of the Zelenskyi administration, wrote in Telegram.
The Air Force of Ukraine announced that it destroyed 13 drones over the south of Odesa and Mykolaiv regions.
Users of social networks reported that they heard how anti-aircraft systems were activated in the area of the Danube ports of Izmail and Reni.
This was announced by the Ministry of Defense of Romania
The Ministry of Defense of Romania said on Wednesday that it “did not detect threats of a military nature to the national territory”, the reaction of the Ministry of Defense to the next attack of the Russian army using drones on Ukrainian ports on the Danube.
- “Regarding the drone attacks carried out last night on the infrastructure of the Danube ports of Izmail and Reni, located near the borders of Romania, the structures of the Ministry of National Defense, which monitor the airspace, did not detect threats of a military nature to the national territory or the territorial waters of Romania,” the statement said. cited source.
MApN also “increased vigilance measures established in accordance with national and allied plans and constantly monitors national land, sea and air space in cooperation with NATO structures, acting to strengthen defenses on the entire eastern flank and deter any aggression against allied territory “.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania also reacted to the night attacks.
- “I strongly condemn Russia’s continued attacks on innocent people, civilian infrastructure, including grain silos in the Ukrainian ports of Reni and Izmail. Through these flagrant violations of international law, Russia continues to jeopardize global food security and the safety of shipping in the Black Sea,” Luminica Odobescu wrote on Twitter.
Ukrainian ports on the Danube accounted for about a quarter of grain exports before Russia pulled out of a UN-backed deal to ensure safe passage of Ukrainian grain exports through the Black Sea. From then on, they became the main exit route, with grain being transported by barge to the Black Sea port of Constanta for onward shipment.
Earlier this month, Russia attacked Izmail, Ukraine’s main inland port, causing world food prices to skyrocket. Drone strikes destroyed buildings at the port and halted ships preparing to arrive there to load Ukrainian grain, defying the de facto blockade that Russia reimposed in mid-July.
