The Ukrainian army is facing brutal attacks by Russian troops using artillery fire and airstrikes on many fronts in the east and south of the country, according to a General Staff report released on Thursday in Kyiv, reports Agerpres with reference to dpa.
The message refers to the sections of the front in Kupyansk, Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivtka, Mariintsa and Shakhtarsk. However, the Ukrainian General Staff claims that they managed to repel the attackers. These statements of the Ukrainian military cannot be independently verified.
The message mentioned only two areas of the offensive of Ukrainian troops: in the direction of Melitopol and Berdyansk in the south. The Ukrainian military hopes to launch a counteroffensive to the Sea of Azov and cut Russia’s land link with the Crimean peninsula, which Moscow illegally annexed in 2014 in violation of international law.
In Kupyansk, the Ukrainian authorities issued an order to evacuate 37 settlements in the region, affecting more than 11,000 people, including 600 children, Oleg Synegubov, the head of the regional military administration, wrote.
The head of the Kherson regional military administration, Oleksandr Prokudin, reported in Telegram that over the past day, Russia had bombed the Kherson region 65 times. At the same time, 16 shells hit the regional capital of the same name.
The Ukrainian offensive has been going on for two months, but so far its results are far below the declared expectations. Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine has been going on since February last year.
