For decades, Pikes Peak has been one of the most extreme and extravagant competitions in which the most incredible vehicles compete. This year, it is Ford that should attract attention with an electric van with a capacity of more than 1,400 hp.
It is the evolution of the amazing Supervan, a high-performance electric van introduced in 2022 and optimized for the hill climb that will take place in a few days, on June 25 to be exact, on the famous course that loops through the Rocky Mountains. Colorado, USA.
Diet for weight loss
Supervan 4.2, that’s its name, has a redesigned body to optimize aerodynamics, with downforce up to two tons at a speed of 240 km/h. Among the new built-in elements, we can note the appearance of a front splitter and a rear wing made of carbon fiber.
On the technical side, Ford Performance mainly worked on reducing the weight of the chassis and mechanics to make the car more agile and responsive. Along with stripping the interior of everything unnecessary, the standard windshield was replaced with a plexiglass windshield.
Excessive power
Electric motors are now not four, but three, the front pair has been replaced by a single unit, and the rear has retained two motors to preserve the torque vectoring effect on each of the wheels.
The battery, consisting of lithium polymer cells, has also been optimized. The three engines together reach a maximum power of 1050 kW, i.e. 1400 hp. Meanwhile, the braking system has been improved with carbon ceramic brakes and forged magnesium discs fitted with Pirelli P Zero tires.
The icing on the cake is the driver’s choice: behind the wheel of this electric monster, we will find Romain Dumas2016 Endurance Champion, double winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and above all, four-time winner of Pikes Peak between 2014 and 2018, with the latest edition of Volkswagen’s ID.R.
