UEFA to introduce VAR and Goal Line technology from U21 UEFA Champions League quarter-finals

France U21 and Italy U21 met 2-1 at the Cluj-Arena on Thursday in the opening match of the EC U21 group stage, and there were plenty of controversial moments going against the Italians in the contest.

The French won 2-1, but in Italy the press exploded after the game of referee Allard Lindhout.

In particular, at the U21 European Championship there is no video refereeing and no Goal Line technology, which notifies the referees if the ball has crossed the goal line.

The contest between France and Italy had some controversial moments, the most important of which was the disallowed Italian goal. The Italian national team missed a shot from 11 meters after a handball in their penalty area by a French player.

UEFA drew attention to serious mistakes in this game and announced that from the quarter-finals there will be both VAR and “Goal Line Technology”.

The referee is currently deputized for Romania’s group match between Spain and Croatia, but UEFA are rumored to be ready to take action against him.
