Unemployment benefit: Which of the unemployed will receive up to 1200 euros

Two passive policy pilot programs for the unemployed are unlocked from the beginning of 2024. The planned actions are also included in the Recovery Fund, and after the pilot implementation and study of the results of the pilot program, a single new system of unemployment benefits will be possible.

The reform, which provides for an increase in unemployment benefits, at first will be a pilot, since it will not be possible to fully implement such radical changes. Therefore, according to the plan, two pilot projects are expected to be launched in the near future to reform the unemployment insurance system, which will affect 30,000 unemployed. DYPA has been working with scientific organizations all this time on these models so that they can be unlocked from the beginning of 2024.

Benefit up to 1200 euros

According to the information, unemployment benefits in one of the programs will be tied to the previous salary of the unemployed person before his dismissal and will be graduated. The main condition that must be met in order for a worker to receive a wage is that the unemployed person is actively looking for work or participating in training programs.

The first program appears to follow the proposal contained in the final opinion of the Pissarides committee. Specifically, the committee’s proposal was to change the way it was calculated and basically grant it for a period of 6 months.

The idea is that unemployment benefits are not fixed and are not tied to the minimum wage, but to the unemployed person’s previous wage. According to the proposal, the unemployment benefit should be set at 55% of the average monthly wage of an unemployed person for the previous 3 years, with a maximum benefit limit of 1,200 euros, but the maximum duration of the increased benefit should only be six years. months, while the lower level of benefits will not be able to fall below 479 euros, as specified in the “Working Again” bill.

Program for the long-term unemployed

The second program, which will concern the long-term unemployed, provides for a gradual increase in benefits over 12 months from the current 200 euros to 325 euros. The project budget is 33,800,000 euros and it will affect 10,500 unemployed people over a long period of time.
