Because the European Commission is not happy with how things are going with recommendations and kind words, it may make it mandatory to exclude Chinese companies such as Huawei and ZTE from the 5G market in Europe due to security concerns, according to the Financial Times.

Currently, about a third of EU countries have introduced measures to exclude risky companies from the continent’s new telecommunications infrastructure. “There are too few of them. And this is a vulnerability for the collective security of the Union,” said European Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton.

Germany, for example, is one of the countries criticized for still taking its time. Not only that, it buys more than 50% of its 4G and 5G equipment from China, according to a study that shows Europeans are still very dependent on Chinese companies. Italy, Portugal, Poland and Spain are other countries that continue to cooperate with Huawei.
