However, public markets in Thessaloniki Prefecture will operate as normal inside and outside the urban complex, according to a statement from the Macedonia-Thessaly-Thrace Federation of Associations of Professional Manufacturers and Traders of Public Markets.

In many other provincial cities, shops remain closed today, while businesses will remain open in tourist centers.

How are those who work paid?

This day is not included in the public holidays established by law for employees of the private sector.

However, private business in the country is late in the event that the day of the Holy Spirit is declared an exit clause of the Labor Code of the company, a business habit and custom during which the business remains closed on this day. . Likewise, more favorable terms may apply in relation to increased remuneration for work prescribed by law on the day of the Holy Spirit.

In case employees do not work in accordance with the above, they usually receive their wages, and those who receive daily wages are entitled to receive their daily wages.

As the GSEE Workers and Unemployed Information Center points out, if, despite the fact that the Holy Spirit’s Day has been designated as an additional public holiday for businesses, it operates as an exception this year, then working employees are entitled to a 75 percent surcharge, which is calculated on the basis of their daily salary (if they are paid a daily salary) or in the amount of 1/25 of their monthly salary (if they are paid a monthly salary).
