“Thanks to this decision, the European Union will be able to freeze the assets and block the entry into the EU of people who undermine the democratic political process or try to overthrow the constitutional order, including through violent acts,” said Maja Sandu.

The head of state also emphasized that restrictive measures can be applied to persons involved in embezzlement of state funds, who will be able to take control or seriously influence the activities of state institutions.

“We thank the European Union for the proposed support to maintain stability and security in the country by applying individual sanctions against those who want to cause destabilization. We thank Romania for its constant participation and firm support of this important initiative for Moldova. The adoption of this sanctions regime is a clear proof of the EU’s support for Moldova, our European path and ensuring peace and stability in the region,” Maja Sandu concluded.
