“Positive Hopes for the Smooth Development of National Life” is an optimistic headline on the front page of the Kathimerini, April 15, 1967. Parliament was dissolved the day before and elections were scheduled for May 28. This step came at a time of deep institutional crisis that began in July 1965. Successive changes of government and the inability of the parties to find a stable managerial solution did not end with an agreement between King Constantine II, George Papandreou and Panagiotis. Kanellopoulos in December 1966 for the formation of an interim government headed by I. Paraskevopoulos and holding elections. The reluctance of other parties to support the Kanellopoulos government led to the announcement of elections. “In order to dispel fears and dispel doubts about smooth development, the intention of the government is not enough. Appropriate concern for everyone is required, as well as the preservation of the integrity and prestige of the State and the great good of Freedom,” warns the Daily Newspaper. A week later, on April 21, there was a coup of the colonels, and democracy was overthrown.
