An amateur gold hunter found a huge stone with gold worth $160,000.

The efforts of one Australian a gold digger equipped with a cheap metal detector paid off after he managed to find one A 4.6 kg stone containing gold valued at A$240,000 (US$160,000).

An unnamed man stumbled upon this precious piece of land in a Victorian gold mine that was part of the Australian gold rush in the early 19th century.

Darren Camp, the man who evaluated and ultimately purchased the sample, reported that it is the most he has seen in his 43-year career.

“I was just stunned … This is a find for life,” he said.

The man who found it went to Camp’s shop in Geelong, southwest of Melbourne.

“He took out a stone and, leaving it in my hands, asked me: “What do you think? is it worth tens of thousands?” Camp says.

I looked at him and said “you better not say 100,000”– he answered himself, accustomed to the fact that people with fake gold approached him.

Then an unknown lucky man told him that in his hands he was holding half of the amount that he had found. A total of 4.6 kg of stone contained 83 ounces or about 2.6 kg of gold.

Camp bought it for $160,000 and the seller said he would spend the money on his family. “He said, ‘Oh, the wife will be so happy,’” Camp recalled.

Although such finds are rare, Australia is estimated to have the largest gold reserves in the world.
