More than 1,400 drivers for Amazon’s parcel delivery service have filed a lawsuit at an employment tribunal in London, claiming they should be classified as employees rather than independent contractors.

Amazon says it has no contractual relationship with the drivers and asked to dismiss the claims at a hearing last month.

However, in a ruling released Monday, the judge said the lawsuits against Amazon should continue.

The court ruled that it could not be “virtually certain” that the drivers would not be able to prove that they had an “employment relationship” with Amazon.

The plaintiffs’ lawyer, Kate Robinson, said the decision was a “huge success” for drivers.

“Amazon needs to recognize the value of drivers working on their behalf and give them the rights we believe they deserve,” she said.

Amazon did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
