Athens in an “interim” role between Belgrade and Pristina.

Greece’s agenda Balkans the provision of stability and security on the peninsula is coming to an end, he assured Nikos Dendias Serbian President Alexander Vucic, during the meeting they had yesterday afternoon in Belgrade, where the Minister of Foreign Affairs arrived on the same day. Mr. Dendias’ move to Belgrade came to light late Tuesday evening and has long been a subject of discussion between the two sides. And this is because Athens, as the oldest country of the European Union in the Balkans, has taken on the role of facilitating contacts between Belgrade And Pristinaespecially in the context of the Franco-German sentence, which is used as the main instrument.

Guarantees

Assurances were also given from Athens on several fronts that Greece at the present stage, really wanting to play the role of an honest mediator between Belgrade and Pristina, is not going to recognize Kosovo as an independent state, as well as four other EU members. – Spain, Romania, Slovakia and the Republic of Cyprus. The mobility of recent days, however, has shaken up a relative paraphilology that goes beyond the well-known American proposals in Athens, Madrid, Bucharest, Nicosia and Bratislava for the recognition of Kosovo. In this critical geopolitical situation, elections are also expected in Athens, making any such initiative rather untimely.

As a reminder, just last Saturday, Serbian President and Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti met in Achrid, North Macedonia, under the chairmanship of the High Representative of the European Union, Josep Borrell, where they reached some common guidelines that were trying to be framed as one possible binding agreement. Mr Dendias confirmed Greece’s strong support for the EU’s efforts, according to statements from the Foreign Ministry yesterday. for further progress in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue “with a view to concluding a comprehensive and legally binding agreement”.

Security Council

The role of the European Union is, of course, more than welcome on both sides, but as they know in Athens, the crux of the problem at this stage lies in the significant split that the Organization of the Ukrainian War has caused in the Security Council (SA) of the United Nations. As is known, the status of Kosovo is determined by a number of SA resolutions. The UN (dominated in 1244), which is currently divided between the US, France and Great Britain on the one hand, and Russia and China on the other. The decisive development in this matter was bound to go through the UN SA, and at the moment there is no place for that.
