
Ukrainian grandmaster Kyrylo Shevchenko, who chose to play under the flag of Romania, became the vice-champion of Europe in chess, the Ministry of Sport reported on its official Facebook page.

Shevchenko played the first international competition in which he represented Romania, and the result was worthy: a silver medal at the European Individual Chess Championship.
He finished the competition in 1-3 places with a draw, and in the last round of the individual European chess championship, he tied with Oleksiy Sarana, and Buchholz’s result was a draw, according to the quoted source.
According to MTS, Kyrylo became a grandmaster in 2017 at the age of only 14, and now (at the age of 20) is ranked 78th in the world ranking among seniors.
Shevchenko was also the European champion with the Ukrainian national team in 2021.
Romania took part in the CE from Serbia as part of 20 chess players, only three of them managed to get into the top 100: Shevchenko (2), Constantin Lupulescu (66) and David Gavrilescu (92).
