Germany about the Nord Stream explosion: “We know” about the article in the New York Times – the investigation continues

OUR German The government took note of the newspaper article The newspaper “New York Timesaccording to which a pro-Ukrainian organization is responsible for attacks on pipelines natural gas Nord Stream, however, its own investigation has not yet come to any conclusions.

Sweden, Denmark and Germany informed the UN Security Council a few days ago that investigations were ongoing, but no results had yet been reached, a spokesperson for the office said.

“A federal prosecutor has been investigating this matter since early October 2022. It therefore has jurisdiction over the proceedings,” the spokesman said.

White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby of Washington said “European partners are already investigating the attacks,” noting that the case is still pending.

The NYT newspaper, citing information verified by the US intelligence services, writes that a “pro-Ukrainian group” is responsible for the sabotage of the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea. But he does not specify any information that the US agencies, nor the “identity” of this “group” had access to.

“No indication” of Zelensky’s involvement

US officials said there was no indication that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was involved in the sabotage.

According to intelligence gathered by US agencies, the attackers were “opponents of Russian President Vladimir Putin”, possibly citizens of Ukraine or Russia. The American newspaper clarifies that no reliable conclusions can be drawn from this information and “the possibility remains open that the operation was carried out secretly by a third force with ties to the Ukrainian government or special services.”

In late September, four massive underwater gas leaks were discovered in pipelines linking Russia and Germany, all in international waters. Western countries blamed Russia, which, in turn, blamed the “Anglo-Saxons”.

The case is being investigated by the Swedish, Danish and German authorities.

In a recent article, American journalist Seymour Hers wrote that US Navy divers, with the help of Norway, planted explosives in pipelines last June and blew them up three months later. Washington called this information “completely false.”

Kyiv: We did not have “absolute involvement”

It is even noted that Zelensky’s adviser Mikhail Podolyak said that Kyiv was “absolutely not involved” in last year’s attacks on the Nord Stream gas pipelines and does not have information about what happened.

The Ukrainian official made such a statement about an article in the New York Times.

Russia: Publication Justifies International Investigation

Finally, Russia’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN said that the New York Times report “only proves that our initiative to launch an international investigation under the auspices of the UN Secretary General is absolutely timely.”

Russia plans to request a UN Security Council vote by the end of March on its draft resolution asking the Secretary General Antonio Guterres launch such an investigation, he said in Reuters Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN, Dmitriy Polyansky.
