Italy: Two US Air Force planes collide near Rome

Two Italian Air Force pilots were killed when their planes collided mid-air near Rome, Prime Minister Georgia Meloni said.

“The news of the deaths of two Air Force pilots in a plane crash in Guidonia, near Rome, saddens us,” the statement said, extending condolences to the families of the pilots and the Air Force.

The two pilots were at the controls of two U-208 training aircraft and participated in a training mission, the Italian Air Force said in a statement.

The cause of the collision between the two planes is currently unknown.
