Bayern Munich star Nussair Mazraoui has been banned from playing after doctors diagnosed inflammation of the heart caused by the Covid-19 infection. The defender will stay for up to eight weeks.
Nussair Mazraoui, heart problems after Covid
The Bundesliga club announced that Mazraoui missed Morocco’s quarter-final win at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar due to Covid, although he played against France in the semi-final, writes the Daily Mail.
But further tests carried out after his return to Bayern revealed that the player’s pericardium – the fibrous-serous sac that surrounds and protects the heart – was inflamed.
According to the Bundesliga club’s press release, the 25-year-old defender will not travel with the rest of the squad to Doha for a training camp before the league resumes.
Mazraui is expected to miss six to eight weeks.
In January 2022, another Bayern Munich player, Alphonso Davies, was diagnosed with a minor heart condition after contracting Covid-19 a month earlier. Davies did not return to action until April 2022, missing Canada’s World Cup qualifier.
ℹ After testing positive for Covid-19 during the FIFA World Cup, a follow-up examination in Munich showed that Nusser Mazraoui was diagnosed with mild pericarditis.
I wish you all the best for a full and speedy recovery, Nous! uD83DuDE4F
