Rafael has announced a split with Francisco Roig, the coach who has been involved in every Grand Slam tournament won by the Spaniard.
The collaboration between Francisco Roig and Rafael Nadal began in 2005, when the Spaniard did not win a single Grand Slam tournament.
Rafael Nadal and Francisco Roig ended their partnership after 18 seasons
Francisco Roig was the coach with whom Rafael Nadal began his professional tennis career, and the relationship between them turned out to be one of the strongest in the history of the sport.
No fewer than 22 Grand Slam tournaments were won by Rafael Nadal together with Francisco Roig (14 trophies at Roland Garros, 4 at the US Open, two at Wimbledon and two at the Australian Open).
Rafael Nadal will have to try to defend his trophy at the first Grand Slam tournament of 2023, the Australian Open.
Nadal announced this on his official Instagram account.
“I want to inform you that Francis Roig is leaving the team and starting a new personal project as a coach. After 18 seasons with me, he started by joining the team and working with us with my uncle Tony and later with Carlos Moya and most recently with Mark Lopez.
Francis was an important person in my career and I am very grateful to him for all these years of work and friendship.” – wrote Rafa Nadal.
