A tender has been announced for its modernization and expansion suburb of Western Attica, a project that will serve passenger transport in the regions of Western Attica and will contribute to their further development.

The tender notice was published in the Official Journal of the European Union and concerns the modernization of the existing West Attica Commuter Railway line in the section: Ano Liosia – new Megaron railway station to the old Megaron railway station (project section with option). The project concerns the renewal of the infrastructure of the railway line using new materials and its certification in accordance with the principles of interoperability, while it includes: installation of a 25 kV / 50 Hz trolley-type contact network, installation of an alarm system. with ETCS L1 with remote control and station information systems, telecommunications systems and electromechanical installations at stations and project stops [ΕΛΠΕ Ασπροπύργου, Ασπρόπυργος, Ελευσίνα, ΕΛΠΕ Ελευσίνας, Λουτρόπυργος, Νέα Πέραμος, Μέγαρα (ΣΓΥΤ) και παλαιός σιδηροδρομικός σταθμός Μεγάρων].

The project also includes work on the replacement of small and large linear equipment, hydraulic engineering works along the entire length, repair and strengthening of linear equipment, as well as work on the construction of a berth. In essence, the new expansion stations will serve the residential areas of Aspropyrgos, Elefsina, Loutropyrgos, as well as Nea Peramos and Megara, as well as the ELPE facilities of Aspropyrgos and Elefsina.

Modernization and expansion of the West Attica suburb will facilitate the connection of large industrial facilities with the railway, as well as, more broadly, the transfer of workers to the distribution and storage logistics companies operating in these areas.

It is noted that, as K wrote, the existing transport isolation of specific areas is a deterrent to attracting workers.

The €106.9 million (excl. VAT) project is included in the recovery fund, with 24 January 2023 being the deadline for the submission of proposals by potential contractors as stated in the notice. In two days, that is, on January 26, 2023, the opening of trading is expected.

As stated in the decision to include the project in the Recovery Fund, the modernization of the suburban railway in West Attica is an infrastructure project that serves the overall development of the region and the social needs of the movement of the population of West Attica, while at the same time it contributes to limiting the impact on the environment. environment for increased travel.

Environmental Conditions (EIA) have been issued for this project and no expropriations are required as it moves within the existing rail corridor and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
