The car market is not in the best shape right now. Admittedly, the situation seems to be slowly improving, but we are still a long way from the pre-pandemic period when sales were doing very well around the world. The Covid-19 epidemic, the shortage of semiconductors or even the rising prices of raw materials have really hit the industry hard, not to mention various logistical problems that have led to numerous delays in deliveries. Indeed, the shortage of boats means that cars remain stranded in some ports. In short, it’s hard to buy a new car with confidence right now, while sales are still weak despite a slight improvement in recent months.

The high price

But returning to used cars is not easy either. Indeed, due to high demand, as well as the onset of shortages, prices rose sharply within months. And it doesn’t look like it will get better. Indeed, according to a study conducted by Autoscout24, the average number of used cars is getting higher. Indeed, only in October the growth was about 1.7%, while prices rose 14.7% since the beginning of the year. Unbelievable growth, of course, to the detriment of buyers. Despite this, this is precisely due to too high demand in relation to supply. So much so that sales are falling due to a lack of affordable cars.

Success for electricity

According to the Autoscout24 barometer, electric are also very popular among motorists, even sometimes. It would be the Renault Zoé that would be the most successful at the moment, followed by the Tesla Model 3, which also remains strong in the new car rankings. Finally, the 3rd step of the pedestal was occupied by Peugeot E-208, which is always liked by customers. Nevertheless, the share of electric cars in the second-hand market is currently only 2.4%, which is obviously still very small compared to gasoline and diesel.
