Lamda Hellix Expects Record Revenue This Year

This year is expected to end with record revenue for the Lamda Hellix it generates. data centers and provides them with data hosting services. According to the information, the company is expected to show turnover more than 20 million euroswhich is the largest in the last 19 years of the company’s operation.

During the last financial year, the company posted a decline in annual turnover of around 8% at €15.3 million due to lower non-recurring revenues, which are expected to recover this year. Earnings before taxes, financing, investment results and depreciation (Ebitda) fell by 23% to around 5 million euros. Accordingly, adjusted Ebitda margin decreased by 8% to 33%, while Lamda Hellix posted a net margin of EUR 644.4 thousand from EUR 1.8 million.

In 2021, the company showed a net profit of 644.4 thousand euros with a decrease in turnover year on year by 8%.

Lamda Hellix, along with President and CEO Apostolos Kakkos, say in their 2021 financial report that demand for colocation services (to host third-party equipment), cloud computing, and connectivity will grow due to the digitization of companies, which has accelerated due to the pandemic . However, according to Lamda Hellix, increased demand is not accompanied by an increase in the number of new players. The main reason for this is the fact that the cost of building a building with the necessary characteristics to host multi-user data is extremely high, and regular regular investments in fixed equipment are required to provide modern and high-quality services. Also, for round-the-clock monitoring and operation of data centers, it is necessary to have qualified personnel, and data centers are especially energy-intensive facilities.

But how much does it cost to build a data center? According to the cost index compiled by the British consulting company Turner & Townsend, the cost of building in Athens, excluding the cost of acquiring land, is 6.80 euros per watt. Athens is among the top five cheapest cities in the British firm’s index, which covers a total of 45 markets, narrowly ahead of Cape Town, Bogotá, Warsaw and Mumbai.

However, market participants tell K that the cost of 6.80 euros per watt does not allow building a high-end data center, i.e. is low. They add that when the cost of land and connection to the grid is taken into account, the cost jumps to from 10 to 15 euros per watt at the European level.

According to the Turner & Townsend index, in terms of value (excluding the purchase price of real estate), Zurich leads with 12.5 euros per watt, while Silicon Valley, New Jersey, Tokyo and Singapore take second, third and fourth places at prices ranging from 11.40 to 11.60 euros per watt.

According to an online survey conducted by the company of data center market players, 73% of respondents believe that by 2022 the cost of submitted applications for the construction of a data center will increase by more than 15%. He predicts further price increases over the next twelve months.

The main characteristics of this market, according to Turner & Townsend research, are high price volatility and uncertainty about the supply of required materials, making it difficult to complete this type of project on time.
