
Kaunas will not host the Euroleague Final Four in May next year, while Dubai is vying for the final stage of the competition following developments in the Lithuanian capital.
According to Zalgiris general manager Paulius Motegunas in an interview with LRT, the Lithuanian government informed the club that it could not allocate the required amount of 1 million euros due to the financial crisis in Europe. “Our candidacy is much weaker than others,” said Zalgiris agent and basketball veteran, referring, in fact, to Dubai!
According to Basketnews, Dubai has submitted an offer to the Euroleague to host the Final Four for three consecutive seasons, as well as to be represented by a team from Dubai in Europe’s premier interclub basketball tournament.
The Arabs, who see the Euroleague as an investment opportunity, have chosen the 17,000 capacity Coca-Cola Arena as the venue for the 2023 Final Four.
