Jon Hamm donates 60% of his salary to finance new ‘Confess, Fletch’ movie

How devoted he was Jon Hamm (“Mad Men”) in the making of the film”Confess, Fletch“? Apparently … a lot.

The film’s director Greg Mottola told website Uproxx that the Emmy-winning actor involved in the project donated 60% of his salary to help fund three extra days of filming for the indie film. And Motola, however, gave part of his salary to expand production.

According to Mottola, funding from production company Miramax only covered 27 days of filming. When Mottola and Ham spent 30 days looking for sponsors, many rejected their offer.

“Everyone was telling us, ‘I don’t know if a comedy like this is going to be successful these days,'” Mottola said. “We were asked: “Who is Fletch?” I don’t think there is any interest.”

He added: “Basically, what happened was that John gave 60% of his salary to the budget of the film. I also contributed – not as much as John, because he is better off, and I have three children. So we set aside three extra days for filming: 30 days in Boston and one day in Rome. We said that this film would be made. Then Miramax really supported us, creatively. They didn’t react in any way to the choice of actors we wanted to hire.”

Confess, Fletch is a crime comedy based on the 1976 novel of the same name by Gregory MacDonald. The character inspired two 1980s comedies, Fletch and Fletch Lives. Hamm has taken on an iconic role in the new film. He will be joined by Lorenza Izzo, Marcia Gay Harden, Kyle MacLachlan, Roy Wood J. and John Slattery.
