The Social Democrats again want to change the regulation on limiting energy prices. More precisely, the PSD will submit an amendment to the parliament, according to which the cap on energy prices will be linked to current consumption, and not to 2021, as currently stipulated in the decree.
The PSD amendment provides that the maximum compensable consumption thresholds of 100 and 300 kWh/month, respectively, should be linked to current consumption and not to the monthly average from 2021, as in the current GEO 119 form /2022.
The Social Democrats claim that such a change in the law “will encourage citizens to save electricity, which will support Romania’s efforts to reduce national consumption by 10% in line with the targets set by the European Commission.”
Decree 119/2022, which regulates and limits energy prices, was discussed by specialized committees of the Senate last week. At the general debate in the specialized commissions, the Social Democrats submitted a number of amendments, among which price restrictions on energy carriers and religious cults, the pharmaceutical industry and public transport are included in the category of beneficiaries.
