The president of the Forza Dreptei party, MP Ludovic Orbán, announced on Wednesday that he is suing the government for not organizing elections in more than 40 localities, thus flouting the law and democracy, the right of citizens to elect their mayor.
“Democracy requires free elections. For more than a year, the Government has refused to organize elections in more than 40 localities where the post of mayor is vacant. There is also a locality where the local council has been dissolved. If the elections are not held, it is not democracy. The PSD-PNL government has become a danger for democracy and tramples the right of citizens to vote in more than 40 localities, where public affairs are managed by people who have no legitimacy.
Orbán clarified that he had filed a preliminary complaint with the government under the administrative justice procedure as a step before going to court.
“First of all, I want to tell you that the Government is reckless, it did not even give me an answer to my appeal regarding the observance of the law and the organization of elections in these settlements. I wonder what happens to the thousands of petitions and requests formulated by the citizens of Romania, if this government has not fulfilled even the minimum obligation to respond to the parliamentarian, who only requires the government to respect the law and democracy, to organize free elections. the 30-day deadline for the government to respond to the previous complaint I filed in August has expired. Today I am suing the government of Romania, through the lawsuit I am filing, I am asking the government to oblige the court to issue a decision of the Government regarding the organization of elections in more than 40 settlements where the position of mayor is vacant,” said the ex-prem Jer.
And the USR candidate for the mayoralty of Sector 5, Alexandru Dimitriou, sued the government, the MAI and the Permanent Electoral Authority, saying that the court will force the authorities to follow the law and organize elections in Sector 5. on the same occasion.
