According to data released yesterday Hellenic Statistical Office (ELSTAT)turnover for all its businesses and activities Greek economy was formed in the second quarter of 2022 at the level of 111.26 billion euros against 79.86 billion euros in the second quarter of 2021, recording an increase of 39.3%. Compared to the second quarter of 2019, the growth is about 34.65%, since at that time the turnover of the companies was 82.61 billion euros. The largest increase in turnover in the second quarter of 2022 compared to the second quarter of 2021 was represented by enterprises in the direction of “Provision of accommodation and catering services”, by 128.8%, i.e. tourism related activities. In the second quarter of 2022 compared to the second quarter of 2021, the companies in the Information and Communications sector showed the smallest increase in turnover by 14.4%, while the largest decrease was recorded in the companies in the Human Health Activities sector. and social assistance”, by 4.2%.
The trade sector (wholesale and retail) sees an increase in turnover in the second quarter of 2022 compared to the second quarter of 2021 to 42.02 billion euros, but this increase is relatively small (21.9%), given that this year in stores no restrictive measures. In fact, a significant part of the increase in trade is due to rising prices. The manufacturing sector continues to show good results, with a turnover of 26.27 billion euros in the second quarter of 2022, an increase of 45.2% compared to the second quarter of 2021. Of course, part of this increase is due to higher prices.
In total, in the first half of 2022, the turnover of all enterprises amounted to 202.76 billion euros, compared with 145.97 billion euros in the first half of 2021 and 153.23 billion euros in the first half of 2019.
Yesterday ELSTAT also released data on the turnover of all enterprises (those that are required to keep double bookkeeping) for July. In particular, turnover in July 2022 amounted to 37.09 billion euros, an increase of 44.4% compared to July 2021, which reached 25.69 billion euros. The largest increase in turnover in July 2022 compared to July 2021 was demonstrated by enterprises in the “Accommodation and Catering” industry – by 55.1%.
