Russian vigorous Colossus Gazprom announced today that it is completely suspending deliveries from Thursday natural gas the French group Engie in connection with non-payment of deliveries made in July.
Gazprom Export has notified Engie of a complete suspension of natural gas supplies from September 1, 2022 until all deliveries are paid off,” the Russian group said in a statement posted on its Telegram account on Tuesday evening.
According to a decree signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the end of March, “the supply of natural gas to a foreign buyer who has not paid for it within the period established by the contract is prohibited.” Referring to the decision, Gazprom emphasizes that today it has not received the full amount due for July deliveries.
French Engie management did not respond to a request from the French agency (AFP) for comment. The French company assured that it had already taken measures to be able to serve its customers even in the event of a complete cessation of natural gas supplies from Gazprom. Russian gas supplies to Engie have already been significantly reduced since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
