Russia insists Western sanctions are to blame for stopping Nord Stream 1

OUR Russia remains committed to its gas supply obligations, but cannot fulfill them due to economic sanctions imposed on it by the West, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said today, Interfax news agency reported.

Earlier today, Russian energy giant Gazprom announced that natural gas supplies to Europe suspended on the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline in connection with repair work.

The temporary break is expected to last until 04:00 am Greek time on Saturday.

In July, Gazprom carried out ten days of repair work on the same gas pipeline, during which the supply of natural gas to Europe was again interrupted.

Then, according to Moscow, the turbine is to blame, which could not be sent to Russia due to sanctions. Germany, where the turbine was located, for its part replied that Moscow was blocking its mission.

The company then resumed natural gas supplies, but slightly reduced their supply to 20% of Nord Stream’s normal capacity.

Prior to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, it reached the EU via Nord Stream. about a third of the 153 billion cubic meters of natural gas the bloc buys annually.
