The delay is due to the small number of private doctors in the regions (especially in Attica, the country’s most populous region) who have signed a contract with EOPYY to become personal doctors.

According to the Ministry of Health, at the moment they are registered throughout the country with a personal doctor. 3200 doctors and higher 2 million citizens.

It is noted that the population who has reached the age of 16 by date of birth, as well as the entire adult population, are registered with a personal doctor. The doctor is chosen freely, regardless of place of residence or stay, from all private doctors registered in the updated lists, specializing in general/family medicine or internal medicine.

Registration process

Registration of a personal physician is done electronically, either by a citizen through a citizen registration platform, or by administrative and other personnel of public PPH healthcare providers, or by personal physicians.

1. through the personal physician registration platform (https://ehealth.gov.gr/p-rv/p), where entry is made with the citizen’s taxinet and AMCA codes.
2. in person at a PFY health facility or personal physician, bringing your AMCA with you and, for simple demonstration, an identity document (such as an ID card) or a photocopy.

All citizen applications are accepted until the legal limit of 2,000 registered citizens per doctor is reached. In the case of private doctors who have entered into an agreement with EOPYY, citizens’ applications for registration are accepted in accordance with a certain limit that each doctor has chosen in his agreement.

Citizens who are already registered with a family doctor are considered registered with a personal doctor with all relevant rights and obligations and are not required to take any further actions.

Each person has the right to register with only one personal doctor. The transition to another personal doctor is allowed once a year, which starts from the day of registration of a citizen. In the event of a change of administrative region during the year, a citizen has the right to an additional transfer.

The uninsured have the option, if they wish, to register with a personal physician hired by EOPYY if they cannot be covered by a public PFY physician.

Citizens who wish to register with a personal physician of the National Health Service in areas that have been characterized as problematic and barren, may register for the services of a personal physician at the health post in their place of residence.

Rewards and “punishments”

Those who register will have priority from 01/01/2023 when planning their regular outpatient visits in public institutions of secondary and tertiary care.

Those who are not registered with a personal physician will, as of 10/01/2022, have an additional 10% drug share in addition to their share determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition, they will have an additional participation in laboratory and diagnostic tests and surgeries, hospitalizations in private clinics and other benefits of 10% in addition to their participation rate determined on a case-by-case basis.

From 01/01/2023 the above provisions are increased by 10% in addition to the above additional participation, increasing to 20% of the percentage of participation determined in each case.
