Unresolved issues and complaints from PAE have been the harbinger of every new football season in recent years, even going so far as to postpone the start of the Super League 1 championship. This summer has been clearly calmer. There were no multi-wave series, but this does not mean that there are no reasons that could lead to a “belligerent” climate and breaks in the future.
In previous years, TV rights and negotiations with providers were at the forefront, and professional football’s long-standing demand – a percentage of the profits from the Bet – was formed during difficult times for the sport, such as a pandemic. Last year’s two-year agreement of most teams with Cosmote and finding a “roof” gave early “breathing” and the resolution of the TV issue for this year, however, the reason for the demands was again found, once again highlighting the activators of Greek football, which is always looking for ready-made income. without trying to create it yourself.
Considering that the state had to advance a percentage of the rate or even part of it for 2023 during the summer (the amounts for 2022 were given in advance in 2021 to cover increased needs due to COVID-19), the smallest and medium-sized PAEs planned based on of the amount allocated to them (approximately 1.5 million euros).
Strong television reservations delayed the reaction to the interest rate.
However, the Ministry of Finance spoke in the negative, specifying that the liquidation would take place at the end of the year, as a result of which the payment would not begin until January 2023. This caused a reaction and thoughts about postponing the premiere, which did not materialize. , however, as commitments to television contract clauses are strong.
The financial inability of the “small” ones to keep up with their obligations has again brought to the surface the question of the central management of television rights, even if the large TAEs, who want to negotiate with the channels alone, object. New League President Vangelis Marinakis has been authorized to start preliminary talks with TV providers for central management from the 2023-24 season, promising to bring him back in a scenario that is long-term anyway, but also an oxymoron going forward. At the same time, the Red-Whites are committed to a three-year contract with Cosmote, which was signed last year. Centralized management is now also provided for in the new EPO statute from the moment the existing contracts expire, which is a legally undesirable provision, since it was also in the statute of the cooperative, but was canceled by the decision of the Arbitration Court after the appeal of Olympiacos.
The PAE TV rooftops have been configured since last year: eight teams (Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, AEK, OFI, Panaitolikos, Ionikos, Volos, Lamia) play… the ball on Cosmote TV and six on Nova (Aris, PAOK, Asteras Tripoli, Atromitos, PAS Ioannina, Levadeikos).
