European Athletics Championships: Katerina Stefanidis silver medal in pole vault

Katerina Stephanidis won the silver medal in the pole vault at the European Championships in Munich. The great Greek athlete climbs the podium at the fourth consecutive European Open Championships in Athletics.

The jumper, who trains with Mitch Krehr, was first in 2016 in Amsterdam and 2018 in Berlin. The Rio gold medalist won the silver medal at the 2014 Zurich competition.

Stefanidi started her race at 4.40, which she finished first. The 32-year-old athlete had excellent efforts at 4.55, 4.65 meters, a height that clarified a lot, as only three athletes cleared it.

Stefanidi passed with first and 4.70, equaling her record this year. Thus, this filled the anxiety of Sutty and Murtaugh, who failed at this height in their first attempts.

An athlete from Slovenia overcame 4.70 seconds, and Murto decided to leave the height. Three gymnasts presented an excellent final, passing 4.75 (Stefanidis and Sautey with the first).

Then the bar was raised to 4.80 meters. Katerina Stefanidis made her first failed run in the final, and Murtaugh succeeded by flipping over the top, setting a new Finnish national record.

Tina Satti failed to overcome 4.80 meters and won the bronze medal. Katerina Stefanidis had two unsuccessful attempts with a score of 4.85 and won the silver medal.

Wilma Murtaugh has risen to the highest step of the podium. The athlete from Finland successfully cleared 4.85 meters, equaling the game record set by Katerina Stefanidis in 2018 in Berlin.
